Summer Lawn Care – Round 4 Application
If you have maintained good lawn care practices throughout the spring, your lawn should be dark green and healthy by the time the summer hits. The summer weather is much warmer than spring weather and generally more dry which means that lawn care must be approached differently in the summer months to help retain moisture and get the most out of the nutrients. It is recommended to continue with weed and grub control at the beginning of summer, but it is wise to switch fertilizers to one more appropriate for summer weather.
Summer blend fertilizers have different concentrations of nutrients than early season fertilizers that are better suited for protecting lawns from diseases and brown spots caused by heat stress. These fertilizers typically work by activating existing nutrients in the soil and they help the soil retain moisture to prevent topsoil erosion and heat stress. Like the slow release granular fertilizer, organic summer blends release nutrients slowly for consistent growth.
It is recommended that weed and grub control applications continue into the summer season to keep your lawn free from unwanted pests and weeds. Remember, grubs do not hatch until July, making the early summer an opportune time to take preventative action. With summer blend fertilizers and adequate weed and grub control applications, your lawn will look healthy and green into the hottest months of the summer.
